Spring is here!

Spring is here!

A happy couple at their door, a little illustration for book 3.

Dear friends,

I'm sorry for not writing sooner, but I have been so busy lately, so today, I'm taking a break from all the packing and cleaning to sit down and write to you.
I never imagined that moving could be so hard; my heart breaks a little as I sit on the grassy prairie above the beach and watch the foxes play in the pale spring sun; a new year is unfolding on the island, and soon I will be leaving for new adventure over the sea.
Last week I saw a sea lion bobbing in the waves; he raised himself up out of the water and peered imperiously along the beach. I thought perhaps it might have been Judge DP Bonneville.

Below is a picture I painted for book 3, it shows the Judge in the bay with his friend Bob the otter. Now I look both pictures together I think the Judge is a bit wider than the chap I saw, so perhaps it wasn't him after all.

If you happen to recognise him please let me know, I would love to know his name.

And now, for news from home.

Quentin and Robin were driving me to distraction, Robin couldn't sleep for excitement, and more than once, he set out on his own, trying to make his way down to the sea caves, where he was convinced he could find a chain that held the island to the ocean floor. His plans if he found the chain were too bizarre to explain; suffice it to say that they involved sea monsters with strong jaws and a full moon, and I was starting to fear for his safety, so I suggested they go on ahead of me to England.

They left last week in a flurry of feathers and excited chatter on a beautiful ship bound for Whitby harbor. There they will make their way to Newstead Abbey, where they will be staying with Quentin's relatives in the potting shed until I arrive to take them to our new home.

As soon as I hear from them, I will be sure to share their news, and until then, take care and enjoy the spring in all its glory.
Your friend
Jayne
